Charles James Lewis was born in 1830 and was a pleasing painter in oil and water-colour.
He made his first appearance at the Royal Academy in 1853 and exhibited too at the British Institution and at Suffolk Street.
During the latter part of his life he contributed mainly to the Royal Institute, of which he became a member in 1882. He died on January 28th, 1892, after a long and painful illness.
