Cai Xiaoli was born in 1956 and grew up in China where, under the influence of her artistic parents, she started to paint when aged only four.
Cai Xiaoli then trained at the Chinese Central Academy of Fine Arts, where she concentrated particularly upon traditional Chinese painting and where she was inspired by the Chinese masters of the10th-12th century and by French Impressionists such as Monet and Bonnard.
She makes an intriguing use of materials: she paints in water-colour with natural crystal pigments on Chinese paper.
Whilst exhibiting at a number of exhibitions, Cai Xiaoli has also been the recipient of a prize at the seventh International art exhibition in Beijing for producing the most outstanding work.
Cai Xiaoli is now based in the United Kingdom.
