I find this (very purple) room inspirational because it combines so many interesting elements that you wouldn’t normally see together. This room is bursting with personality, with a combination of traditional and contemporary pieces. The juxtaposition of the graphic rug, velvet chairs and classic painting is an unexpected design triumph, and made me really appreciate classic works for their versatility.

"The Abundance Of Fruit," Severin Roesen
At first glance, you may think that classic still life and landscape paintings may only suit particular types of interiors, but in actuality they can mix very well in modern settings. Try framing them in sleek, simple frames and you’d be amazed at how the sophistication factor will jump up in your room. This would work even better in a salon style hang with several other pieces!

"The Pont de Fleurie, Switzerland, 1873," Gustave Courbet and "Tristram Shandy, A Bay Racehorse Held By A Groom In An Extensive Landscape, Circa 1760," George Stubbs
