This range of prints and posters captures a selection of the art to have emerged from the Islamic cultures of the Middle East and Arabia. Much of the collection comes from Christie’s collection of images and features some of the most incredible calligraphy and arabesque patterns to have emerged from the region. Indeed, this absence of figurative art is a consistent feature of Islamic art which believes that depiction of the human form is idolatry and a sin. The figurative work that you’ll find in our collection is therefore generally the work of travellers who sought to capture their experience of region.
