From 1919 onwards Mondrian began producing a series of abstract grid paintings which would come to define the artist's style. The works strip form and colour back to the most basic of elements as the artist creates a series of rectangles from black lines, filling some with primary colours. This print is an excellent example of the singular vision and commitment to minimalism that was expressed in the artist's abstract works.
