Victor Gilbert was born in Paris, in 1847. He was a genre painter and was particularly interested in the portrayal of market scenes and the picturesque details therein.
His paintings can be seen in the Hotel de Ville, in Paris, as well as in many galleries across France, including collections in Bayeux, Besancon, Le Havre, Liege, Lille, Nice and Strasbourg.
Gilbert was awarded the Bonnat prize in 1926 and died in 1933.
