Growing up in the small coastal town of Swanage, Dorset, Sophie Harding was one member of a massive family she had six brothers and sisters who were all of an artistic nature and encouraged her to pursue her creative interests. The talented illustrator and emerging entrepreneur started selling her pictures from age of 16!
Naturally, Harding pursued an art education, gaining a Diploma in General Art & Design. She subsequently enrolled on the Fashion and Textile BA at Central Saint Martins (the prestigious London art college that nurtured talents such as the late Alexander McQueen and Sir Eduardo Paolozzi). This training has enabled her art to expand through various media, and this versatility led to a short-term employment as a textile designer in New York.
Sophie Harding is an avid follower of Naïve Art, a style thats often characterized by a childlike simplicity in its form and content. Her paintings feature simple compositions of Crayola-coloured safari animals set against cheery tropics, or pirouetting fairy girls. Although not critically acclaimed, Harding's images have been successfully reproduced on diverse products ranging from children's books to gift-wrapping and tableware in fact, such is Sophie Hardings popularity, you've probably received a greetings card with an image of her work at some point in your life without knowing it! Her paintings are also on display in galleries in Cornwall, Dorset, Yorkshire and London.
Sophie Harding travels extensively, and is currently based in Cornwall.
