About Summer of 1941 by P. Coote

Expertly made in England by Easyart, this quality giclée print is produced using museum standard materials, providing rich, vibrant colours.

Painting depicting a noncommissioned officer of the elite Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland during the opening weeks of Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union, in the summer of 1941. On the 11th of July the regiment was committed in an attack to break the Russian defences on the river Dnieper that included an assault crossing of the river itself. The regiment contributed to holding a bridgehead over the Dnieper that allowed the 10th Panzer Division to continue the headlong German advance. From the start of Operation Barbarossa to January 1942, of an original strength of approximately 4000 men, Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland suffered 900 men killed and approximately 3000 wounded.
