    About This Print

Portrait based on one of the most famous photographs from the Second World War. The face belongs to an unknown panzer grenadier believed to be a member of the 1st SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment. The photograph from which the painting is adapted was taken on the 18th December, 1944 during the German offensive termed 'Wacht am Rhein'. The depicted soldier had just been involved in an ambush of reconnaissance elements of the US 14th cavalry group. Despite brief success in this local action, his face is a study of a man burdened with anxiety, tension and fear

    Original size: 14 x 18 in. 360 x 460 mm
