    About This Print

Original painting depicting a young panzergrenadier of the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitler Jugend based on a famous image captured by the war photographer Wilfried Woscidlo. The teenage soldier was photographed outside the LAbbaye dArdenne near the city of Caen, Normandy on 7th June 1944. During the fighting around Caen, LAbbaye dArdenne was the location of the headquarters of the 25th SSPanzergrenadier Regiment, commanded by SSStandartenführer Kurt Meyer. The Abbey was used as an observation post by the Germans during the battle. He is carrying an MG 42 machinegun set up as a squad light support weapon with a bipod and detachable drum magazine.
