Louis de Schryver was born in Belgium in 1862 and moved with his family to France, where his father was a Parisian Journalist.
Receiving encouragement from his family, Schryver studied under Gabriel Ferrier and achieved considerable success from an early age. He made his debut at the Salon at the age of thirteen and his paintings at the Salon and the Expositions Universelles earned him several awards.
In 1893 he was made an honorary member of the Society of Arts of Canada. Schryver died in 1942.
