John Laurents Jensen was born in Gjentofte, near to Copenhagen in Denmark, in 1800.
He is known exclusively as a painter of flowers and is associated with the great porcelain works in Sevres, where he became the first artist to paint flowers onto porcelain, although his works on canvas also achieved considerable acclaim. Jensen went on to become a member of the Academy of Copenhagen in 1825 and he died in 1856 in the town of his birth.
