Jean Marc Winckler art prints and posters

Jean-Marc Winckler was born in 1952 and is today part of the active Parisian art world, working in a classical manner and specialising in portraits of houses and estates in the tradition of painters like van Blarenberghe and Isabey.

At a very young age, Winckler became fascinated by the landscapes of Poussin. At 17 he entered the famous École des Beaux Arts where he as trained for five years and came under the influence of the classically-oriented artist, Chapelain-Mindy. At 22 he left for Rome to specialise in the restoration of paintings at the Istituto di Ristauro. His practical work included participation in the restoration of the then recently discovered Mannerist Frescoes at the Villa Medici, the seat of the French Academy in Rome. He joined the Academy under the patronage of another great representative of the classical style, Robert Balthus.

Back in France, his numerous views of Rome, in the style of 18th century models such as Fragonard, Hubert and Clerisseau, delighted Parisian taste and he has now worked for many of the great artistic patrons around Europe, including the Rothschild family and Hubert de Givenchy.
