Jacob Taanmann was a genre painter who was at ease painting in both oil and water-colour. His most famous images depict his subjects bathed in beautiful light effects.
Born in 1836, Taanmann was a pupil of P. J. Grieive and his work is represented in many public and private collections. However, this talented Dutch artist died in Amsterdam in 1923 after receiving very little recognition for his work during his lifetime.
