Hannah Cole was born and grew up in rural North Devon and has maintained a long affinity with the West Country coast and landscape. Now based in Brighton, she regularly revisits Devon and Cornwall where many of her harbour scenes originate.
The paintings evolve from sketches, photos and memories. She loves walking whatever the weather colours, shapes and ideas are carried back from walks along the coast-paths and through the fishing villages.
These are then translated onto canvas back in the studio, starting with large areas of colour and then building up of layers with a focus on mark-making and colour.
