Born in 1856, Frank Paton lived most of his life in Gravesend and built a first-rate reputation as a genre and animal painter.
His work was regularly exhibited at principal London galleries and at the Royal Academy from 1872 and such was his popularity that his work was frequently engraved. Frank Paton died in 1909.
