Fernando Botero is a Columbian figurative painter who was developed a style so distinct many have labelled it Boterismo. This style is defined by subjects in his work, which are inflated to absurd proportions, creating an effect that is both engaging and satirical. Alongside his style much of Boteros work is marked by its political engagement, with the artist exhibiting collections of works that deal exclusively with drug violence in his native country and the American treatment of Iraqi prisoners in Abu Ghraid prison. He continues to work with his art highly sought after and exhibited around the world.
