Derek Hare was born in 1945 at South Shields on the Northeast coast of England, and his affinity to the sea and air, which form the basis of most of his paintings, was instilled in him from the very beginning. Working mainly in oils and watercolours, his style contains unique facets of technique with which he is able to convey the feeling of the effect of light and air, the boundlessness where sky and horizon melt into one.
