This work is reminiscent of the associations that some cultures make with cherry blossom as a metaphor for life and death, particularly with the death of a hero. The blossom is so short-lived and people often meet to sit under the blossom and reflect on their lives - the round shapes at the top represent groups of people seen from above, in the blossom, looking down on them. The white blossom falls onto other groups. The red flower at the bottom is a reference to the printer's mark often seen on Japanese and Chinese woodcuts. The original was block printed onto acrylic painted board.
