Original painted copy of the famous photograph of a young grenadier from the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitler Jugend outside the Ardennes Abbey, June 1944. The division was recruited in 1943 from the Hitler Youth and was largely made up of boys born in 1926. The boys were trained and led by a cadre of experienced NCOs and officers and fought fanatically against the British and Canadians throughout the summer of 1944. By August the division had been virtually wiped out fighting tough defensive battles against overwhelming odds.
