This high quality print is based on a hand-coloured etched plate of Rosa gallica 'Versicolor' (rosa mundi) drawn and etched by Mary Lawrance. One of 91 plates from 'A collection of roses from nature' published by Lawrance in 1799 and dedicated to Queen Charlotte (1744-1818). A teacher of botanical art who exhibited at the Royal Academy, Lawrance was a friend of nurseryman and author Robert Sweet (1783-1835).
