This high quality print is based on a watercolour on board entitled 'Cypm. Vesta' (Cypripedium) painted by J L McFarlane and dated 17th October 1892. McFarlane was a botanical artist painting for nurserymen and a contributor to The Florist and Pomologist magazines. This painting is housed in a small green album titled 'Vol XIII Orchids, painted from specimens flowered at The Woodlands' . The Woodlands, Streatham was the South London home of Robert Henry Measures, a keen orchid grower.
