This portrait was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery. Bown remembers Westwood looking fabulous, being completely relaxed and allowing her all the time she needed. As the shoot progressed, Bown realised that a close-up against a dark background would work best with the designer's curly hair and low-cut dress. Westwood was happy to sit on the floor in order to make this possible and in an instant Bown had her shot.
