About this print

St Bee's red sandstone is the natural bedrock of this former mining area and forms the scars on the shoreline where marine life proliferates.
The sunsets of the Solway Firth and Irish Sea are legendary, ranging from the explosive and spectacular to the subtle and atmospheric. At different times of the year they are framed by the Isle of Man, Criffel or the Mull of Galloway and its hills.
The sunsets are Scottish, lighting up the wild hills of Dumfries and Galloway. They are best viewed from the English side of the Solway, from the battered coastline of Cumbria, the narrow hinterland between the Lake District, the Cumbrian Mountains, and the sea.
