Painted in Mexico in 2004 directly from the subject as it grew in my garden. Getting up close to a Bird of Paradise plant is one thing, but when its growing in your garden, for an English Man, this is something else. These exotic tropical plants really exploit the natural advantages of using oil paint, rich colours, almost plastic 'lipstick' like textures. I never tire of looking at these types of plants, and exploring the intricate details so abundant in the tropical flora.
