The Manhattan Bridge Arch and Colonnade was designed by architects Carrère and Hastings as a grand approach to the bridge which leads into the borough of Brooklyn. The arch, which was completed in 1915, was modelled on Porte Saint-Denis in Paris and the colonnade was inspired by Saint Peter's Square in Rome. The top of the arch features a frieze of a buffalo hunt, designed by Charles Cary Rumsey.
