About this print

Louis Armstrong, Birmingham, 1956. Louis Armstrong was in Birmingham in the mid-fifties when Denis Thorpe approached him requesting to take a portrait. Although Thorpe was "Just a lad" at the time Armstrong obliged, allowing access to his dressing room as he warmed up for the evening's show. The results are a personal and atmospheric set of the jazz musician.
