This high quality print is based on a watercolour of Callistephus chinensis (China aster) and Coreopsis tinctoria (dyer's tickseed) flowers by Caroline Maria Applebee painted c.1814. Applebee was born in London in 1799 and appears to have been the daughter of a wealthy middle-class family that had conservatories and greenhouses providing access to the plants and flowers she painted.
