After graduating from De Montfort University with a 21 Bachelor of Arts Degree in Textile Art Karen became a Freelance Artist, creating greeting cards for Rafale Design and obtaining private commissions. She then went on to complete a teaching degree and worked fulltime in various colleges. Karen now wishes to concentrate solely on her career as an artist, having recently displayed work in Peterborough Artists Open Studios and with exhibitions pending in 2010.
Her personal work evolves as a response to the expression of the inner self, sometimes using spiritual dietys from a variety of cultures as a catalyst. Abstract imagery is used to capture emotion alongside representational focus and combines large, expansive brushstrokes with delicate detailed marks.
I create strength and depth of colour on canvas using many layers and textures in a variety of techniques. Oil is my favoured media and is often mixed with other materials including sand, paper and tissue
