York Art Prints and Posters
Josiane York was born in North Carolina, but raised in the Syracuse area of Upstate New York. The artist has always been intrigued by the expressiveness of the human form in the world around her and began translating that fascination onto paper at a very early age.
She pursued an education in fine art after being seriously encouraged by a dedicated high school art instructor. She attended and obtained her BFA from State University of New York at Purchase. In addition, she expanded her perspective with studies abroad at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam, which grounded her with much insight and inspiration.
Josiane Yorks portfolio of influences spans the course of art history, but concentrates on notable artists of the 20th century such as Manet, Diebenkorn, Rivers, and Warhol. She admires these artists as groundbreakers and innovators of their time for stepping outside the conventional realm of colour and opening the door to a new degree of intensity. York is also inspired by the constant progression in our current age of art and fashion by the desire of the art world always to be on the edge. She is excited by the rapidly changing perceptions and technology that continues to become available to advance the future of art.
The artists style is sophisticated and up to the moment, while keeping hints of classicism and vintage quality just below the surface. Her keen sense of design and aesthetic value are evident in her work. Her graceful hand lends itself effortlessly to chic and clean line work and visible demonstrates a true talent for visual placement and balanced composition while working in various mediums.
"I like to jump right into my work and see where the painting takes me, " York says of her own creative style and processes.
