Born in Orange in the south of France, Pierre Farel was determined to become an artist from a very early age ever since he was a child. Farel started painting at an early age, taking his first lessons at the age of 12.
Farel went to study at the Avignon School of Beaux Arts at the age of 16. However, it wasn't long before his rebellious spirit refused to conform to standard artistic styles. A few years later, Pierre Farel moved to Corsica, a “French island basking in the Italian sun”, as described by writer Balzac. At the age of 20, however, he gave up painting, having become disillusioned with the art world.
Following a life-changing experience in 1988 of being bestowed the prestigious Lila Acheson Grand Prix award for his early work, Farel decided that he was going to devote his life to painting. The artist soon achieved international success with his sensually stylized paintings. His oil canvases are inspired by music, nightlife and the human form, characterized by glamorous, trend setting jetsetters hopping between international night spots such as the Sky Bar in Paris and Lan Kwai Fong in Hong Kong. Monsieur Farel also channels inspiration from cabaret, film noir and stills from classic films such as Casablanca, Bonnie and Clyde and Pulp Fiction.
The highly collectable artist has exhibited widely in Paris, London, Marseilles, Lyons, Bordeaux and Corsica, as well as New York, Miami, Berlin, Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai, mirroring the glamorous life of the characters his paintings depict. Pierre Farel continues to live and work in Corsica.
