I begin my paintings by making random lines and colors on the canvas, without any preconceived idea at all of what the finished work is going to look like.
To begin with I paint, without looking at what I am doing. The lines and colors then suggest things to me that I would never have come up with by conscious painting to start with. This is the point where I get the feeling of the painting and know for myself what it is going to be.
My paintings inhabit and can suggest different things to different people. I regard them as inspiration for the imagination.
The things I choose to develop, the lines I draw, the colors I use all these things are inevitably a product of my own feelings, memories, experiences and mood.
The names of the paintings are intended to hint at an element of what the painting suggests to me.
I am as a painter autodidact.
