Emil Prisse Art Prints and Posters
Unfortunately, very little is known about this fine artist. Prisse is known to have been a French artist and engraver working in the nineteenth century in Paris. He was interested in exploration in far-flung places and was known to have joined a zoological exploration of Algeria in 1840.
The series of plates were sourced, first appeared in 1860. Their colourful exoticism brought exciting information to the public at a time when mass travel was not possible and when there was no possibility of learning about foreign places through photographs or films.
