I was born in South London in 1946 but have lived in the Midlands from the age of thirteen. On leaving school, I studied graphic design and typography at the Birmingham College of Art. This was the sixties and in the college canteen, I found myself wishing Id followed my heart and become one of the fine art students with their long hair and Bohemian life style.
A career in graphic design and later commercial photography followed until two years ago when I returned to my first love painting. For the past decade my home has been Church Stretton surrounded by the South Shropshire hills but its the landscape of the human face and body that fascinates me most. The work is rooted in portraiture and in part, inspired by the dramatic lighting techniques created for those classic black and white movies of the forties and fifties.
