He was a painter of landscapes and portraits and exhibited his work at the Royal Academy between 1898 and 1932.
Charles Ward's allegory of Spring was exhibited at the 1905 Royal Academy. His source for this painting seems to have been the Roman writer Virgil's pastoral poem, The Georgics.
