Alena Kupcikova Art Prints and Posters
A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Alena Kupčíková explores the possibilities of means provided by new media. She transforms the language, movements and whole systems into sound and visual records (audio-visual projects Dance of the Sun, Sound of Eyes, Music through Trees, Orchestral View on Human Existence). She tries to make open artistic artefacts that testify to the connection between her mental dynamism and all kinds of aspects and expressions of everyday life in which she looks for systems. Kupčíková approaches her selected concept in a rational way, clearly formulating her theme, to which she refers in a visual form. She complements her individual installations and projects with attached detailed interpretations. The character of her multimedia art consists of several determining features. It is above all the consistently thought-out content and form of the work and the ability to perceive the expression, to shift it into a more general plane and present it. Kupčíková attracted attention at the exhibition “Young Flesh” in 2002. She used female pubic
hair to “draw” female nudes with an erotic touch – Hairy Women, which was complemented by a video with comments of “donors” as well as her own commentary. Kupčíková has stepped from the medium of drawing into the category of mixed media. Her gradually developing project did not attempt at direct mortification of the viewer, but her aim was to follow the whole process and reactions from the first idea up to its acceptance by the addressed public. She made a statement on fashion dictate and manipulation, and without an emancipation complex she touched on the issue of women and perception of the female body. She has enlarged the conceptual installation by adding other layers. Her project of a mobile gallery has become an interactive attack on public space, mediating the possibility of sale of individual works in a freely accessible gallery, set up by the artist in various out-of-gallery premises.
