A.E. Haswell Miller Art Prints and Posters
The painter and illustrator Archibald Eliot Haswell Miller was born in Glasgow in 1887.
He studied at the Glasgow School of Art between 1906 and 1909, and also travelled to study in Paris, Vienna, Munich and Berlin. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and also at the Royal Scottish Academy and he was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1924.
He was assistant professor at the Glasgow School of Art between 1910 and 1930, with a gap during the First World War. Subsequently, he was Keeper and then Deputy Director of the National Galleries of Scotland between 1930 and 1952.
Haswell Miller specialised in the painting of portraits, especially the military portraits for which he is known today, landscapes and architectural subjects. He was also a noted illustrator of books.
AE Haswell Miller died in 1979.
