Generating custom framing suggestions…
Whilst staying with his brother in Paris Van Gogh first began to paint sunflowers, a series which would later form some of the artist's most distinctive works. This image, painted in 1887, was completed in Paris as part of four studies of sunflower heads. This work is also notably for being acquired by Paul Gauguin, who was instantly impressed by the work, hanging it above his bed in his Paris home, only selling the work in order to finance his trip to Tahiti. The painting now forms part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection in New York.
